Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Siphonocladus is Siphonocladus wilbergii F.Schmitz.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Wittrockiella lyallii (Harvey) C.Hoek, Ducker & Womersley.
Source of Synonymy
Boedeker, C., Ramirez, M. E. & Nelson, W.A. (2010). Cladophoropsis brachyartra from southern South America is a synonym of Wittrockiella lyallii (Cladophorophyceae, Chlorophyta), previously regarded as endemic to New Zealand. Phycologia 49(6): 525-536.

Holotype locality: Puerto Angosto, Isla desolacion, Chile; (Leliaert & Coppejans 2006: 670) Holotype: P. Dusén; (Leliaert & Coppejans 2006: 670) Notes: Leliaert & Coppejans (2006: 670) note that the Dusén collection is usually housed in S or UPS but in both herbaria specimens of S. brachyartrus were untraceable.
