This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Titanoderma laminariae (P.Crouan & H.Crouan) Y.M.Chamberlain.

Crouan; February 1859; On Laminaria digitata; CO; (Chamberlain 1991: 70) Notes: Type: under herbarium name Melobesia lithothamnioides. Lectotype selected by Chamberlain (1991: 70).
