Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Peyssonnelia is Peyssonnelia squamaria (S.G.Gmelin) Decaisne ex J.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Agissea novae-hollandiae (Kützing) Pestana, Lyra, Cassano & J.M.C. Nunes.

This is a marine species.

Habitat
Essentially a deep water species, known from shaded pools to 48 m deep (Womersley 1994: 158).
