Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ecklonia biruncinata (Bory) Papenfuss.

Type locality: "New Holland" (Port Dalrymple, Tasmania); (Silva & al. 1996: 640) Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Womersley (1967: 249) for more information on the type locality of this species.
