The type species (holotype) of the genus Stenopeltis is Stenopeltis gracilis (Yamada & Tanaka) Itono & Yoshizaki.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Akalaphycus liagoroides (Yamada) Huisman, I.A.Abbott & A.R.Sherwood.
