The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Caulerpa flexilis J.V.Lamouroux ex C.Agardh.

Adjective (Latin), resembling the mosses, specifically the genus Hypnum (Neal 1993).
