Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Lithophyllum is Lithophyllum incrustans Philippi.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Titanoderma chamberlainianum (Woelkerling & S.T.Campbell) Athanasiadis & D.L.Ballantine.

General Environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Found in intertidal rocky reef pools and subtidally at depths of 0.1-3 m on a variety of algal hosts including species of Apjohnia, Caulerpa, Acrocarpia, Sargassum, Scaberia, Zonaria, Laurencia, Metamastophora and Osmundaria; specimens also on limpets, snails and abalone (Woelkerling & Campbell 1992: 36). Also on the seagrass Amphibolis antarctica... and subtidally to depths of 10 m (Womersley 1996: 221).
