Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Laurencia is Laurencia obtusa (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Osmundea verlaquei G.Furnari.
Type Information
Type locality: Sausset (Bouches du Rhône, France); (Cormaci, Furnari & Serio 1994: 369-370) Holotype: Verlaque; 9.3.1983; lower midlittoral; CAT; 1370 (Cormaci, Furnari & Serio 1994: 370) Notes: Holotype consists of male and female gametophytes and tetrasporophyte. Isotypes can be found at CAT 1241. Paratypes at Verlaque Herbarium (F1359, H2511, H2512). The specific epithet honours Marc Verlaque. (Cormaci et al., 1994)
