Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Peyssonnelia is Peyssonnelia squamaria (S.G.Gmelin) Decaisne ex J.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Sonderopelta capensis (Montagne) Krayesky.

Type locality: Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 210) Type: Herb. Agardh, LD; 27650 (Womersley & Sinkora 1981: 87) Notes: Type locality: probably near Bunbury, Western Australia (Womersley & Sinkora (1981: 87).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), deep red, from scarlet to carmine and crimson (Stearn 1983).
