Nomenclatural note
[Names of North Pacific species of Mastocarpus not yet assigned to contemporary specimens]. Lindstrom et al. (2011: 680) note that they were unable to obtain type material of this species but if they are able to acquire this material, it is possible that this specific epithet will replace an existing or a proposed name, most likely M. pacificus, given its provenance. - (16 December 2011) - G.M.
