The type species (holotype) of the genus Phymatolithon is Phymatolithon polymorphum Foslie.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Clathromorphum circumscriptum (Strömfelt) Foslie.

Collins, designated by Woelkerling 1993:87 (Peña et al., 2021: 6). [collected by Foslie from Mastervik, Malangen, Norway (syntype)].
