The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Nesoia latifolia (P.Crouan & H.Crouan ex Kützing) H.W.Lee & M.S.Kim.

Lee, H.W. & Kim, M.S. (2018 '2019'). Female reproductive structures define the novel genus, Nesoia (Halymeniaceae, Rhodophyta). European Journal of Phycology 54(1): 66-77.

Distributional note
A species more or less confined to detached coralline populations in the north-eastern Atlantic (Maggs & Guiry, 1982) and western Mediterranean (Codomier 1973). Reports from submerged shell banks in New Zealand (Adams, 1994) require confirmation. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
