The type species (holotype) of the genus Letterstedtia is Letterstedtia insignis Areschoug.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ulva rigida C.Agardh.

Type locality: Port Phillip, Victoria, Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 751) Notes: Silva et al. recommend consulting Womersley (1956: 354) for further information regarding the type locality of this species.
