Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chondrus crispus Stackhouse
Origin of species name
Participle B (Latin), spreading, outspread, diverging from the axis at almost 90 degrees (Stearn 1973).

Taxonomic notes
