Source of Synonymy
McDevit, D.C. & Saunders, G.W. (2017). A molecular investigation of Canadian Scytosiphonaceae (Phaeophyceae) including descriptions of Planosiphon gen. nov. and Scytosiphon promiscuus sp. nov. Botany 95: 653–671, 10 figs, 2 tables.
Basionym
Phyllitis zosterifolia Reinke
Type Information
Syntype localities: "Skagerrack. Englische Küste. Cherbourg" [Skagerrak, England, France]; (Reinke 1889: 61) Notes: According to McDevitt & Saunders (2017: 659) the type locality is "Kieler Hafen, Germany". However, Reinke (1889: 61) considered his species as a "nomen novum" for "Phyllitis Fascia Le Jolis Liste pag. 68; Phyllitis Fascia Le Jolis Exsicc. No. 175; Phyllitis Fascia Rabenh. Exsicc. No. 1514; Phyllitis Fascia Holmes Exsicc. No. 43. Ilea Fascia Arksch. Exsicc. No. 96, das Exemplar mit ganz schmalem Thallus." Accordingly, these are all syntypes and a lectotype should be selected from amongst Reinke's copies of these exsiccatae, presumably at Kiel. Reinke (1889: 61) mentions populations on "... stones and stakes of the litoral region, much rarer than before ... Kiel Harbour at Moltenort!" from which a type could be selected if materials have survived.
