This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pterothamnion francisianum (Wollaston) Athanasiadis & Kraft.

Type locality: Isles of St Francis, South Australia; (Athanasiadis 1996: 73) Holotype: sw face, 55 m depth; AD; A38087 (Athanasiadis 1996: 73) Notes: Type locality: St Francis I., Isles of St Francis, S. Australia; 55 m deep (Shepherd, 9 January 1971); holotype in AD, A38087 (Womersley 1998: 142).
