Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Phymatolithon is Phymatolithon polymorphum Foslie.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phymatolithopsis acervata (Foslie) Maneveldt, Hughey, P.W.Gabrielson et S.Y.Jeong.
