The type species (lectotype) of the genus Laurencia is Laurencia obtusa (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Osmundea caspica (Zinova & Zaberzhinskaya) Maggs & L.M.McIvor.

Komarov Botanical Institute of Russian Academy of Science (Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation).
