The type species (lectotype) of the genus Lithophyllum is Lithophyllum incrustans Philippi.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Titanoderma pustulatum (J.V.Lamouroux) Nägeli.

Lectotype locality: Orotava, Tenerife, Islas Canarias; (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 159) Lectotype: Houegger; 1890; no habitat data on type; TRH; A17-1174 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 159) Notes: This type locality was first recorded by Woelkerling (1988: 35).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), having pustules (Stearn 1983).
