Type locality: Ceylon: Harvey [Sri Lanka] in herb. Sonder; (Kützing 1869: 13) Type: L?; Notes: Type collection: no. 27, undated, collected by Harvey, William Henry. The holotype was deposited at National Herbarium of Victoria (MEL516209). Isotypes can be found at MEL, Herbarium of Trinity College at Dublin (TCD), the Brown University herbarium, the Farlow Herbarium at Harvard University, the New York Botanical Garden Herbarium, and the University of Michigan Herbarium (Rodríguez-Prieto et al., 2016).

Adjective A (Latin), Of (from) Ceylon, an island in the Indian Ocean off southern India (cf. ceylonensis & ceylonicus).
