Nomenclatural note
Reinhardt (2018: 229, pl. 372: figs 1-9; pl. 392: figs 1-5) refer to this taxon as " Nitzschia acula Hantzsch ex Cleve & Grunow, 1880." We adopt the authorities as in INA but we uncertin as to whether two taxa are involved. Cleve & Grunow (1880: 90) write 'N. Åcula Hantzsch, die mir bisher nur nach einem von Hantzsch erhaltenen Präparate ohne Beschreibung bekannt ist, ist noch länger (bis 0,106 mm. läng), hat einen fast centralen Kiel und 6-7 Kielpunkte in 0,01 mm. Schaalen wie bei N. minutissima und media 0,05 mm. breit." - (20 March 2019) - M.D. Guiry
