Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Brongniartella is Brongniartella elegans Bory.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Vertebrata australis (C.Agardh) Kuntze.

Díaz-Tapia, P., McIvor, L., Freshwater, D.W., Verbruggen, H., Wynne, M.J. & Maggs, C.A. (2017). The genera Melanothamnus Bornet & Falkenberg and Vertebrata S.F. Adjective (Latin), south, southern (Stearn 1983).

This is a marine species.

Habitat
A common species on rough-water to sheltered coasts, ranging from low tide level to deep water (Womersley 2003: 239).
