The type species (holotype) of the genus Chondria is Chondria tenuissima (Withering) C.Agardh.

[14771]Type locality: southern Australia (Silva & al. 1996: 481). Lectotype: Curdie; LD 377510 (Womersley 2003: 441). Notes: Type from “S. Australia”, probably SE S. Australia (Womersley, 2003: 441).

General environment
This is a marine species.
Habitat
Common on rough-water coasts of south-eastern Australia, epiphytic on seagrasses and various algae, usually in shallow water; stouter plants occur under rougher water (Womersley 2003; 443).
