Taxonomic note
According to Leliaert & Coppejans (2006), Cladophoropsis herpestica is excluded from the genus based on molecular and morphological evidence. The cells of the species contain tetrahedral protein crystals, similar to those found in some species of Cladophora section Longi-articulatae and the type of rhizoid formation is also found in some species of the latter. - (12 December 2006) - G.M. Guiry

Distributional note
Huisman (2000) notes that this species is known from most Australian coasts but is more prevalent in warmer seas. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry

Habitat note
Formed cushions intermingled with Cladophoropsis membranacea, Chondria, Chaetomorpha and Ceramium; in upper midlittoral zone (Lipkin & Silva 2002). Generally in shaded areas just above or below low tide level under moderate water movement (Womersley 1984). - (17 June 2010) - G.M. Guiry
