The type species (lectotype) of the genus Caulerpa is Caulerpa prolifera (Forsskål) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Caulerpa denticulata var. intermedia (Weber Bosse) M.J.Wynne.
