Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Stephanodiscus is Stephanodiscus niagarae Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Stephanodiscus hantzschii f. tenuis (Hustedt) Håkansson & Stoermer.
