The type species (lectotype) of the genus Grateloupia is Grateloupia filicina (J.V.Lamouroux) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Prionitis imbricata (Holmes) Showe M.Lin & Rodríguez-Prieto.
