Type locality: "Auckland" [almost certainly Auckland Islands]; (Womersley 1998: 106) Lectotype: Dumont d'Urville; PC; (Athanasiadis 2009: 260) Notes: Type: 'Callithamnion pectinatum Mtg Auckland illustr. d'Urville' (Athanasiadis & Tittley 1994: 79). Athanasiadis (2009) notes that the lectotype was designated in Athanasiadis (1996: 147, fig. 67 A, B).

Adjective (Latin), pectinate, with narrow close-set divisions like a comb (Stearn 1983).
