Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Aglaothamnion is Aglaothamnion furcellariae (J.Agardh) Feldmann-Mazoyer.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gaillona hookeri (Dillwyn) Athanasiadis.

Syntype localities: "On Rocks in the Sea at Cawsie, Murrayshire [Scotland]; Mr. Hooker and Mr. Barter. Holyhead; Rev. Hugh Davies. Bantry Bay ; Miss Hutchins." ; (Dixon & Price 1981: 138) Lectotype (Cawsie, Moray, Scotland): W.J.Hooker and Borrer; undated; TCD; (Dixon & Price 1981: 138) Notes: Dixon & Price (1981: 138) "Type localities: Cawsie [Moray, Scotland], coll. Hooker and Borrer; Holyhead, coll. Davies; Bantry Bay, coll. Hutchins (Dillwyn, 1809 : pi. 106). Lectotype: TCD, Hooker and Borrer, Cawsie, undated, labelled 'Br. Flora C. Hookeri Cawsie Hook. Borrer', in Harvey's hand. Other material: BM(K), three specimens. Comments: Harris (1966) cited a K specimen, supposedly from Holyhead, Anglesey. None of the K material mentioned above is so annotated and the specimen at TCD is the legitimate choice of lectotype."
