Type Information
[environs Gottingen, Germany]; (Gerneck 1907: 221) no collector data; no date provided; Notes: Translation of collection data: The algae material from which the various forms were obtained came from the surrounding area of Göttingen, mainly from several small ponds located on the "Kleine Hagen", a low ridge of hills running along the Leine northwest of Göttingen. It was taken from these ponds about six months before the start of isolation and until then kept in large bowls in front of the north windows of the Plant Physiology Institute. Further algae material used for the cultures was found on the slope of the Hainberg on the soil of a clay pit, where botrydium occasionally occurs, and in the Pond of the Botanical Garden, still others were collected from garden walls and tree trunks.
