The type species (lectotype) of the genus Ceramium is Ceramium virgatum Roth.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pseudoceramium paniculatum (Okamura) Barros-Barreto & Maggs.

Habitat
Grows commonly on Corallina; between tide marks near high tide; also grows on Rhodomela or on Mytilus (Nakamura 1965).
