The type species (holotype) of the genus Plagioselmis is Plagioselmis prolonga Butcher ex G.Novarino, I.A.N.Lucas, & S.Morrall.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Teleaulax amphioxeia (W.Conrad) D.R.A.Hill.

Adjective (Latin), dotted, marked with dots, spots, minute glands, etc. (Stearn 1973).
