This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Augophyllum japonicum (Yoshida & Mikami) Kang & Kim.

Holotype locality: Ogashima, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan; (Yoshida & Mikami 1990: 200) Holotype: Shogo Arai; 10 November 1987; Grows subtidally at a depth of 5-20 m, on rocks or old haptera of Ecklonia cava Kjellman ; SAP; 052365 (Yoshida & Mikami 1990: 200, 204) Notes: Holotype; Cystocarpic. Isotype: SAP 052364.

Adjective A (Latin), pertaining to Japan (Stearn 1973).
