Type locality: Brazil: Pará State: Ayayá R., Santarém; leg. Dr August Ginzberger (1927)
; (Bicudo & Mercante 1993: 271) Notes: "Staurastrum marthae was proposed by Grönblad (1945) on the basis of specimens collected from the Ayayá River, a slow-flowing stream in the neighbourhood of Fazenda Taperinha, a small farm west of Santarém, in the State of Pará, northern Brazil. The sample studied (nº 62) was collected by Prof. Dr. August Ginzberger, of Vienna, during his trip to Brazil in the year 1927."
