The type species (holotype) of the genus Ulva is Ulva lactuca Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ulva lacinulata (Kützing) Wittrock.

Type locality: "Roscoff, north west coast of the Ile Verte" [Atlantic France]; (Dion & al. 1998: 76) Holotype: G. Coat, P. Dion, M.-C. Noailles and Y. Berger-Perrot; 16 April 1996; "growing on stones, in the upper part of the Himanthalia zone, intermixed with U. rigida, U. gigantea, U. pseudocurvata and Monostroma obscurum (Ku$ tzing) J. Agardh"; PC; (Dion & al. 1998: 76)
