Nomenclatural note
This species was originally named Amphidinium "carteri" by Hulbert (1957: 216, pl. 1: fig. 1) referring to the figure of A. klebsi in N. Carter (1937). As Nellie Carter was the person intended to be honored, the epithet should be "carterae". - (23 September 2010) - G.M. Guiry
