The type species (lectotype) of the genus Peyssonnelia is Peyssonnelia squamaria (S.G.Gmelin) Decaisne ex J.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Olokunia meridionalis (Hollenberg & I.A.Abbott) Pestana, Lyra, Cassano & J.M.C.Nunes.
