Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Amphidinium is Amphidinium operculatum Claparède & Lachmann.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Testudodinium testudo (E.C.Herdman) T.Horiguchi, M.Tamura, K.Katsumata & A.Yamaguchi.
