Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Gymnodinium is Gymnodinium fuscum (Ehrenberg) F.Stein.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cucumeridinium coeruleum (Dogiel) F.Gomez, P.López-García, H,Takayama & D.Moreira.
