Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Gyrodinium is Gyrodinium spirale (Bergh) Kofoid & Swezy.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Syltodinium undulans (Hurlburt) F.Gómez, L.F.Artigas & R.J.Gast.
