The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Schizymenia dubyi (Chauvin ex Duby) J.Agardh.

Type locality: Ad oras Angliae. — Ad Gades. — In mari Mediterraneo ad Malagam. Specimina miserunt Haenscler & Cabrera.; (Agardh 1822: 203) Notes: Dixon (1963: 90) appears to have selected Malaga as the lectotype locality.
