This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Aegagropila brownii (Dillwyn) Kützing.

Type Information
Syntype localities: "Habitus in Suecuae lacubus Dannemora, Stockholmiae" [Dannemorasjön Uppland; Stockholm; Sweden]; (Linnaeus 1753: 1168) Lectotype: LINN; 1277.49 (Hoek 1963: 51) Notes: Hoek does not specify a locality for the lectotype. Two specimens are present in LINN (1277.48 and 1277.49). The former is labelled in Linnaeus's handwriting "21" and the latter "21/globosa/*. Species plantarum no. 21 is Conferva agagropila [sic]. Dannemorasjön is a shallow eutrophic lake in Uppland, typical of Aegagropila habitat.

Noun (Greek), a ball of hair or a concretion found in the stomach of the goat and other ruminants.
