Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Phacus is Phacus longicauda (Ehrenberg) Dujardin.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Monomorphina aenigmatica (Dreżepolski) Nudelman & Triemer.

Type locality: Poland: "Mokrowa" [near Moczadz; Lwow; (Index Nominum Algarum) Lectotype: (Nudelman & al. 2006: 200) Notes: Nudelman et al. (2006: 200) designate Fig. 4, in Rozpr. Wiad. Muz. Dzieduszyckich 7-8, 1921/1922 p. 14, as lectotype. Epitype: Lyophilized sample of Monomorphina aenigmatica has been deposited at the Michigan State University Herbarium (MSH). Culture from which epitype is described is available from Algensammlung Wien (ASW), as Phacus aenigmaticus strain ASW08039.
