The type species (holotype) of the genus Ctenodus is Ctenodus labillardieri (Mertens ex Turner) Kützing.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phacelocarpus peperocarpos (Poiret) M.J.Wynne, Ardré & P.C.Silva.
