Description
Valves nearly linear, slightly panduriform, with cuneate apices, 34-38 µm long, 4.5-6.5 µm wide. The valve surface of N. schweikertii is flat, bearing a keeled raphe at one side and a shallow mantle at the opposite side. Raphe strongly eccentric, fibulae distinct, 12-13 in 10 µm, the median two father apart. The fibulae are somewhat variable in size but mostly relatively narrow; each is in contact with two transapical costae. Transapical striae uniseriate, well developed in the marginal part of the valve, finely punctate, 28-30 in 10 µm. The striae are composed of round poroids of variable size. The striae adjacent to both the proximal and distal sides are composed of several areolae. The stria-forming areolae are elliptical externally but slit-like internally. A relatively broad sternum interrupts the striae.
