The type species (holotype) of the genus Sarcodiotheca is Sarcodiotheca furcata (Setchell & N.L.Gardner) Kylin.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Placentophora colensoi (Hooker f. & Harvey) Kraft.
