Type locality: St Paul's Rocks; (Dickie 1874: 357) Syntype: H.N. Moseley (Challenger Expedition); 27 August 1873; BM; 000530646 (Sherwood & Sheath, 2003: 411) Notes: Forming a distinct band along the rocks. These remote rocks, with an area of under than two hectares (four acres), lie in the mid-Atlantic 870 km (540 miles) off the coast of Brazil, just north of the Equator (0°55'N, 29°22'W).

Participle A (Latin), expanded, spread out (Stearn 1983).
