The type species (lectotype) of the genus Amphiroa is Amphiroa tribulus (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Amphiroa yendoi De Toni.

Adjective (Latin), canaliculate, with a longitudinal channel or groove (Stearn 1983).
