Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Dictyota is Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyota fasciola (Roth) J.V.Lamouroux.

Type Information
Type locality: Naples, Italy; (De Clerck 2003: 161) Lectotype: L; 936.289-1 (De Clerck 2003: 161) Notes: Although the original description stated 'Dalmatia' as type locality no such specimen was found. The only set of D. aequalis specimens was collected at Naples. One of the specimens is chosen as a lectotype.
