Taxonomic note
Verlaque et al. (2005: 485) note that Wilkes et al. (2005, published in February 2005) proposed the new combination G. luxurians before O. De Clerc & B. Gavio in O. De Clerck, B. Gavio, S. Fredericq, I. Barbara & E. Coppejans (2005, published in April 2005). However, on p. 494 (note added in proof) they note that according to Art. 11.2 of th ICBN (Greuter et al. 2000), priority only applies in the same rank; G. luxurians was described as a variety of G. filicina and hence cannot take priority over G. subpectinata. [see discussion on pages 491, 492] - (08 August 2006) - G.M. Guiry

Distributional note
This entity is likely to have been introduced into harbour areas in Australia, Britain (south coast), Brittany, Spain, and Mediterranean France (see distributional data under Grateloupia filicina var. luxurians), probably from Japan. - (19 August 2006) - G.M. Guiry
